AT&T has pushed out a software update for its variant of the BlackBerry Passport and BlackBerry Classic smartphones. The BlackBerry OS 10.2.2.556 brings several improvements and enhancements to the two devices.
The update was confirmed by AT&T on its website and pushed out on Wednesday, July 15, and will be available for download through the BlackBerry Link or your handset.
"Effective July 15, 2015, AT&T and BlackBerry are releasing a software update for the BlackBerry Passport (SQC100-3). Customers can update their software via Firmware Over The Air (FOTA). Wi-Fi is required, or using their computer and the BlackBerry Link software," per AT&T's changelog for the software update.
BlackBerry Passport and Classic users also confirmed that they had received the update on the CrackBerry forum.
"It just appeared a few minutes ago. I assume other AT&T Passport owners should see it soon or already have it," noted a user on the CrackBerry forum.
The software update will be welcomed by users as it brings enhancement to Amazon Shop, email enhancements that are applicable to a few enterprise customers and a fix to browsing, which is applicable to devices that are activated with Work space.
The BlackBerry OS 10.2.2.556 update weighs 19MB and can be downloaded over the air. To do so navigate to Settings > Software Updates > Check for Updates.
Alternately, you can update your BlackBerry Passport or BlackBerry Classic to software BlackBerry OS 10.2.2.556 via your PC. To do this follow these steps:
- Download BlackBerry Link software and install the same on your desktop.
- Next, connect the device to the PC via the USB cable
- Click Software Update tab and then Check for Updates.

Remember that the software update is only applicable for the AT&T variant of the BlackBerry Classic and BlackBerry Passport smartphones. If you have an unlocked variant of either of the two smartphones that are not on AT&T then you will not be able to take advantage of the software update.
