Everyone knows that Halo is no slouch when it comes to sales numbers. Without Halo, there's a good chance that the Xbox wouldn't have become the juggernaut that it is today. For many, Halo is the sole reason to buy an Xbox - any franchise with that sort of momentum and player dedication is going to sell well.
That being said, it's clear that Halo is doing a lot more than 'selling well': even with the extremely rocky launch of The Master Chief Collection, the franchise hasn't lost any momentum whatsoever. Despite the collection's lingering issues, millions of copies have made their way into the hands of gamers - and it's clear the franchise's stellar sales figures are only getting better.
So, just how good are Halo's overall sales numbers? Well, since the first game was released in 2001, the Halo franchise has moved over 65 million units worldwide.
Now, that doesn't exactly put Halo on top of the video game charts - Microsoft's shooter has a long ways to go before it dethrones Nintendo's red-and-blue plumber. That being said, 65 million units is still an insanely huge number: compare that to franchises like Donkey Kong (56 million) and Metal Gear (42 million) - both of which have been around for far longer than Halo - and it's easy to see just how popular Halo really is.
Of course, it's easy to assume that Halo will pass the 70 million mark come the end of 2015 - with Halo 5: Guardians currently riding a massive wave of hype, it's almost guaranteed that the game will sell like hotcakes.
Speaking of Halo 5: Guardians, you can expect to play the latest game in the franchise on Oct. 27.
