Microsoft Studios wowed the crowd on the first day of Comic-Con when 343 Industries revealed the latest Warzone map for Halo 5: Guardians.
The 12-versus-12 Warzone multiplayer map called "Raid on Apex 7" is by far the largest map ever created for the Halo franchise. The map is four times the size of any of the maps in Halo and is said to have been inspired by the Halo: Combat Evolved mission "The Silent Cartographer."
According to the official description of the map from Microsoft, a team's success on the new venture relies on clearing out Covenant threats and gaining control of the Forerunner Spire at the center of the island and make it a base of operations.
However, even if your team is unable to take over the Spire, you can still conquer the map by strategically moving through the cave system on the island to flank the base or take over the beach in order to win.
"Beware of the Covenant though,” warned Microsoft in the official description. "They will not let you take this island so easily. They will counterattack and fight to retake their territory. Continue the push for control of the island and take out the opposition’s core … before you awaken something much worse."
Microsoft also found an unexpected way to reveal the new Warzone map by debuting it through Mega Bloks. Yes, you read that right. Two master builders spent 16 weeks putting the entire map together using 89,500 blocks. The 6-foot-by-6-foot model weighs a half-ton and has working interactive LED lights to further dazzle those admiring the impressive recreation.
For those who were unable to go to Comic-Con, Halo also posted a tweet to keep Halo 5 fans everywhere updated on the sweet new map and Mega Bloks recreation of it.
Halo 5 for Xbox One will be released on Oct. 27.
