The Continuity Between 'Batman v. Superman' And 'Man Of Steel' Is The Real Deal

Warner Bros. and DC dropped a massive bomb at comic con this year: a new, three minute long trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

There is a ton to dissect in our best look at the film yet. Lex Luthor with hair! Alfred! Kryptonite! Wonder Woman! If you haven't watched it yet, what are you waiting for? Do it right now!

Back? Cool. Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the trailer is how it begins, with Bruce Wayne running through the streets of Metropolis, a witness to the destruction caused by Superman and Zod in the final battle of Man of Steel.

Seeing that kind of power first hand is what convinces Batman that Superman needs to be stopped, or else he could destroy the entire planet.

Looks like Batman v. Superman will at least partially take part alongside the events of Man of Steel, but from a different perspective. For example, check out the gifs below. One shows Zod at the end of Man of Steel unleashing his heat vision, sawing through a building like it's nothing. The other is from the Batman v. Superman trailer, as Bruce looks up from the streets in horror to see laser beams coming from inside a skyscraper.

In case you can't tell, the two gifs depict the same moment but from different viewpoints. Might there be other scenes from Bruce's perspective that coincide with moments in Man of Steel? We already know there will be at least one flashback in the film depicting the murder of Bruce's parents (again), but might there be others that show how Bruce became Batman while Clark Kent traveled the world looking for purpose? Where was Bruce when Zod made his announcement to the people of Earth?

It will be interesting to see how the two film's work together to tell a new story. Many fans were upset by how Superman was portrayed at the end of Man of Steel, causing so much destruction and ultimately killing Zod. It's nice to see his actions are having some huge repercussions in the sort-of sequel. We get to see the destruction Superman caused from a human (Bruce's) perspective, which really puts everything in a whole new context. So far, so good Zack Snyder.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters March 25, 2016.
