We've known a new Green Lantern movie would be coming for a while, but now we have an official title for the upcoming DC cinematic universe film: Green Lantern Corp.
The title was announced during the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic Con. If the name is any indication, expect this new Green Lantern film to focus on multiple characters, rather than just Hal Jordan, as in the not-so-well received 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds.
It is likely the film will be drawing at least some inspiration from the New 52 DC Comic series of the same name. That series starred a number of Green Lantern characters, most notably the African American John Stewart.
Stewart became popularized after serving as the Green Lantern member of the 2001 animated Justice League series.
No word yet on who will be starring in the film or what all the plot will entail, but it wouldn't be surprising to learn the film will look to adopt a superhero "team" idea not so different from Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel's space opera boasted a number of zany characters and didn't take itself to seriously, even as Starlord, Drax, Groot and the rest of the team saved the universe from ultimate destruction.
A Green Lantern Corp. movie will likely be more serious in tone, but with Marvel expanding its cinematic reach to space, DC definitely needs a film of galactic proportions if they want to keep up.
