Everyone's favorite pigeon dating simulator, Hatoful Boyfriend, is set to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Vita on July 21, publisher Devolver Digital has announced.
Hatoful Boyfriend is a visual novel that was developed by Mao Hato, whose last name roughly translates from Japanese as "pigeon" or "dove." The game, originally coded in Flash, has been polished by Devolver Digital.
The game stems from that vein of the rhetorical mechanic for visual novels, or flat out cliched, in which a student attends a school filled with members of the opposite sex. In the case of Hatoful Boyfriend, the player character is the only human attending a school full of sexy birds ranging from doves to quail.
Devolver Digital's Nigel Lowrie took to Sony's PlayStation Blog to announce the launch date for the Vita and PlayStation 4.
"Bird lovers around the world will be able to enjoy the romance of their avian suitors in luscious HD at home or on the go as Hatoful Boyfriend will be a cross buy title," says Lowrie. "Grab it on PS4 or Vita and you'll own it on both!"
The PlayStation 4 and Vita versions of the game will deliver new content. That includes Tohri, a character and possible romance option from Moa's Hato Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star sequel.
"This new content means there is a whole new story path for longtime fans and new players to the series as well as a brand new ending," Lowrie says. "Explore questionable stalkers, bitter rivalries, and even doomsday devices in this exclusive new Hatoful Boyfriend content."
The avian action for PlayStation 4 and Vita owners won't end with the arrival of Hatoful Boyfriend. Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star, an upcoming remaster of a sequel, has been slated for release later this year on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
"The remastered sequel to everyone's favorite bird dating sim Hatoful Boyfriend will come with spruced up visuals and all the bells and whistles (and chirps) a bird lover could ever want," says Mao Hato.
