Fans of CW's Arrow were given just a glimpse of the mysterious villain Damien Darhk in the Season 3 finale, as part of a flashback during a conversation Ra's Al Ghul had with Oliver. But now, the character will become a series regular.
Neal McDonough is officially joining the cast of Arrow in Season 4 of the superhero series as the dangerous baddie Damien Darhk.
The show producers describe Darhk as "a mysterious and sophisticated villain, and an adversary of the late Ra's Al Ghul. Now the leader of his own clandestine group, this cunning foe will prove to be one of the Arrow's greatest challenges."
Darhk is known in the comics as the well-connected techie villain who was a major player in America's seedy underworld. While he does have connections to the criminal organization H.I.V.E., he also possesses some technologically advanced equipment not yet used by any organization. After being fatally shot by Vandal Savage, Darhk gained immortality — thanks to Addie's blood.
While McDonough is the newcomer on the set of Arrow, he is no stranger to the world of comics. He was the voice actor behind Green Arrow in DC Showcase: Green Arrow, as well as the voice of Deadshot in the animated movie Batman: Assault on Arkham. He also played Dum Dum Dugan in the Captain America: The First Avenger, as well as roles in other Marvel films and TV series, including an appearance in an episode of Agent Carter and the first episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2.
McDonough is known for his performance as Lieutenant Lynn "Buck" Compton in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, in addition to his reoccurring role as Robert Quarles in Season 3 of FX's Justified. He also had parts in Star Trek: First Contact, Minority Report and RED 2.
The superhero action drama follows the story of Oliver Queen, a rich playboy who is presumed dead, but later returns to his home in Starling City after being stranded on a remote island. While he gets back to his normal life by day, by night he transforms into a vigilante on a quest to right societal wrongs.
The first episode of Season 4 will be written by Marc Guggenheim and co-showrunner (and newcomer) Wendy Mericle, and will be directed by Thor Freudenthal.
Season 4 of Arrow will air on the CW on October 7.
