The third episode of Teen Wolf season 5, "Dreamcatcher," continued down the path of fleshing out the story so we can understand what is truly going on. Granted, at the end, we were still confused, but it's also clear that things are coming around full circle.
This episode makes it clear that this season is turning out to be something filled with gore and breaking bones. The writers have already promised that season 5 will be the goriest of them all, and we can tell they were telling the truth.
The episode kicked off with Donavan threatening to kill Sheriff Stalinski. That threat is why Donavan is being hauled off to prison, and this recent threat in front of all the police officers at the station didn't sit well with his lawyer, who was hoping to make a deal where Donovan would spend less time in prison.
As Donovan says in the show, "I'm not angry like I'm going to throw a brick through your window. I'm angry like I'm going to find you; I'm gonna get a knife, and I'm going to stab you with it until you're dead."
But as fate would have it, Donavan didn't make it to prison as the police vehicle he was being transported in was attacked by Tracy. All the officers, including the lawyer, were killed while Donavan made a run for it into the night.
He was soon pounced upon by the mysterious group of men known as the Doctors, who injected him with the same gray, gooey stuff that was also injected into Tracy. Clearly they have plans for him, but it's going to take until the next episode for us to find out what these plans entail.
Before we go any further, we should talk about the fact that Malia is attempting to gain a driver's license. During her training with Lydia and Kira, it was clear that she is far from ready and is only prepared to run someone over on a freeway rather than actualy drive. It was a funny scene to watch, but it quickly turned into the incident where the police car was attacked by Tracy.
As for Stiles and Scott, well, Scott was sent by the sheriff to locate Donavan after learning about the incident, and Stiles wasn't too pleased about Donavan's harsh punishment, at least for a short while.
It didn't take long for Scott to find Donavan, and it also didn't take long for our heroes to band together. They located Tracy, only to find out she's in the middle of a night terror, a living dream, if you will. We also got to learn that Tracy is not a werewolf, but a kanima, a shapeshifter. This reminded us of Jackson; too bad the character is not returning to the show.
The final battle saw Tracy attempting to kill Natalie, Lydia's mother. A fight ensued between Tracy, Lydia, and Kira. Lydia was severely injured, and Kira allowed Tracy to escape while she tended to her friend. Luckily for Lydia's mother who was paralyzed by Tracy, Malia came on the scene and gave Tracy, the young kanima, a beating. However, things didn't end well as the Doctors came in and killed Tracy, but, strangely enough, allowed Malia to live.
As it stands right now, Malia is the only one in the pack to have seen the Doctors. We wonder if this will cause her harm in the future.
