Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight DLC that lets players play as Batgirl, aka Barbara Gordon, for the first time in the video game franchise.
Though the details of this new expansion pack, which will serve as a prequel to the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, have been previously reported, we're finally getting a glimpse of what we can expect from this new Arkham Knight story in action. The new trailer opens on a "main event" hosted by the Joker along with Harley Quinn and his other goons in the most horrifying amusement park you'll ever see — a completely new area to the franchise called Seagate Amusement Park. The Joker has captured Batgirl's father, Commissioner James Gordon, and it's up to the heroine to take on these bad guys sans Batman in order to save him.
As you can see from the rip-roaring action in this trailer, Batgirl's combat skills are on point. In the game, she will also use her hacking abilities, object control and puzzle-solving skills to defeat her enemies.
Though Batman won't be around for this mission, Batgirl will still have some help. She'll team up with Robin to take on the Joker and his gang, although you don't really see him in this trailer. Players will be able to use Arkham Knight's Dual Play system to switch between characters by pressing a button, ultimately building up to a tag-team battle with Batgirl and Robin facing off against the Joker and Harley Quinn.
Season Pass holders will get early access to Batgirl: A Matter of Family for the PS4 and Xbox One on July 14. Everyone else can purchase the expansion separately for $6.99 starting July 21.
