Shortly after news about cast additions to the Ghostbusters was announced, Paul Feig tossed fans another tidbit about the reboot with a first look at Ecto-1.
As the vehicle the all-female Ghostbusters will be using for the movie, Feig's Ecto-1 looks different but at the same time highly familiar. For starters, it looks boxier compared to the original. The first Ecto-1 followed the organic appearance of a 1959 Cadillac Professional chassis. Now, it has lost the tail fins from the original but has kept the ladder mounted on the side as well as a series of lights and sirens.
Feig tweeted two photos of the new Ecto-1. The second one, provided at the request of a fan, showed the back of the vehicle, complete with the Ghostbusters logo albeit in a more toned down version of the characteristic red-and-white color scheme.
As to be expected, fans weighed in on Feig's version of the iconic vehicle, but opinions were divided. Some only had disdain to share while others, even the purists, expressed real excitement about how the reboot was going to turn out judging by how the Ecto-1 was recreated.
To be fair, Feig isn't one to recreate anything for the reboot on a whim. In the same way that the director meticulously broke down the details for proton packs for the movie, he also went through old design documents for the Ghostbusters, including an antennae set that could be found in early concept drawings of the Ecto-1 by Dan Ackroyd.
The Ghosbusters reboot isn't due until July 22, 2016 but at the rate Feig is releasing bits and pieces about the movie, it doesn't sound like a long shot that everyone would know everything about it before the movie is released.
The all-female Ghostbusters taking on the roles portrayed by Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis include Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Recently, it was announced that Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams and Neil Casey will be joining the cast.
Plans of a Ghostbusters 3 movie had been in the works but was never finalized because Murray refused to sign on. When Ramis passed in 2014, all hope of reuniting the original crew was lost.
