After NBC announced the cancellation of Hannibal, Fannibals hoped that one of the streaming giants would pick up the series. But now, executive producer Bryan Fuller has revealed that the show will not be going to Amazon or Netflix.
Fuller shared the news that neither of the streaming services decided to order a fourth season of Hannibal in a tweet on Monday.
Amazon had seemed like the perfect home for Hannibal, since Amazon Prime owns the exclusive rights to stream the show's first three seasons. There's still a glimmer of a chance the series will stick around for another course — especially as Fuller said he has big things planned for a potential next season.
But then again, we learned last week that the series' starring actors, Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen, were released from their contracts — which put yet another nail in the Hannibal coffin.
It's unlikely that another network will adopt the series, because Season 3 hit a series low in viewership, in spite of its enthusiastic fan base. There are also some complications with international partners, not having the NBC studio on board — making it that much harder to bring the show to another table.
Hannibal will finish out Season 3 on NBC, airing Thursdays at 10 p.m.
