After months of rumors and speculation, WWE and 2K have revealed the Superstar who will be calling the cover of WWE 2K16 home.
It is, of course, none other than "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, who has been rumored for a while now to be the center of the game's single-player mode. The iconic wrestler has held more than 21 championships, is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, is the host of multiple television shows and has starred in numerous films over the years.
He is following in the footsteps of cover Superstars like John Cena and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
"Those two were awesome guys to put on the cover of the 2K wrestling games," Austin says in a press release. "Being in there with The Rock and John is great. But they just got trumped by ‘Stone Cold' Steve Austin - and I say that with all due respect."
But just because 2K has announced Austin as the star doesn't mean they are ready to go into more details about the game's features just yet. However, we do know a little more about Austin's creative role in helping shape the game thanks to an official press release.
"Not only will Austin grace the video game's cover, but he's involved in shaping its creative direction," Chris Snyder, vice president of marketing at 2K, says. "Through his numerous contributions, inclusion on the largest roster in franchise history and the game's to-be-announced features, WWE 2K16 is certain to put everyone on notice."
Expect the game's soundtrack to be curated by Austin just like Cena's song selection in WWE 2K15 as well. It seems we will have to wait a little longer to learn what new modes and features are in store for WWE 2K16, but the reveal of Austin as the game's cover is definitely a step in the right direction, as is the announcement that WWE 2K16 will feature the largest roster in the wrestling sim franchise's history. WWE 2K16 will be available on Oct. 27 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
