The Oscar-winning composer James Horner, who died unexpectedly last week, is receiving a musical tribute of his own — by way of an 8-bit animated video.
The video, posted on June 30, features some of Horner's most beloved works, including An American Tail, Braveheart and Titanic.
Created by David Dutton and Henry Dutton of CineFix, the video is another installment in their weekly 8-bit series. In the past, movies like The Avengers, Spirited Away, The Matrix and Forrest Gump have all gotten the 8-bit treatment.
"He was a big influence in our lives growing up, and these are a few of the movies we remember," David Dutton says in the video.
As a composer, Horner was prolific in his output, counting more than 75 film scores to his name. Known for working on a variety of films in diverse genres, one of his greatest collaborations was with James Cameron, who brought Horner on board for TItanic in 1997 and Avatar in 2009. Cameron himself gave a joint-statement about Horner's passing with producer Jon Landau:
"James's music was the air under the banshees' wings, the ancient song of the forest, and the heartbeat of Eywa. We have lost not only a great team-mate and collaborator, but a good friend."
Horner was piloting a single-engine S312 Tucano when it crashed near Cuyama, California on June 22. The plane immediately burst into flames upon impact. The cause of the crash is as of now unknown.
