RIP Club Nintendo: What Former Members Should Know

The North American Club Nintendo is now history, with all accounts closed as of Wednesday, July 1.

Club Nintendo first debuted more than a decade ago in 2002, awarding coins (basically points) to members who registered official Nintendo products and participated in feedback programs. Members could exchange their coins for game download codes, physical merchandise and more.

Nintendo Club announced back in January that it would be closing shop — aiming to start up a new customer loyalty program. North American members of Club Nintendo were allowed to keep registering products, taking part in surveys, requesting warranty extensions and earning coins until the end of March.

If you were a member of Club Nintendo North America, here's what you should know.

Members had until the end of June to exchange their coins for Club Nintendo rewards — and the deadline has now expired. As of July 1, Club Nintendo deleted all coins as it closed down accounts. Members can still redeem download codes from Club Nintendo in the Nintendo eShop until July 31, and physical rewards will ship by the end of September.

The Nintendo Club website now displays a farewell message, thanking all members who have been part of the experience over the years. The message also notes that more information should soon become available regarding the new loyalty program.

It remains to be seen just what the new program will bring to the table, as Nintendo has not offered any specific details just yet. All that it known at this point is that the new service will be platform-neutral, allowing consumers to enjoy it across multiple devices such as the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, NX, PC and potentially smartphones too, using the same ID. There's some speculation that the upcoming loyalty program will feature rewards for consumers who make digital purchases, but it remains unconfirmed at this point.

Nintendo has yet to announce when the new customer loyalty program will become available, but it shouldn't take too long. In the meantime, you can head over to the company's support pages to learn more about the Club Nintendo program discontinuation.

Europe, Australia and New Zealand are next in line for the termination, as Club Nintendo will continue to function in these regions only until September.
