Anki is gearing up to launch Anki Overdrive, the follow-up game to its highly successful robot toy racing game Anki Drive which will feature customizable race tracks, two new cars, new modes and a new Anki app.
Anki Overdrive is a unique car racing game as it allows players to control the robotic cars using their smartphones. The toy cars race along FlexTrack pieces that can be customized. There's practically no limit to how players would like the tracks to look like or where they would like to place it. Amazingly, the cars can easily run on the tracks without crashing. Packed with A.I technology, the cars will try to beat other cars with the help of their weapons and with the player's precise control of movements.
Players can also customize their cars with a number of new virtual weapons, upgrades and more. There are also weapons that are unique to a certain toy car. Even the toy cars, which measure 2 inches long, are uniquely named (Nuke, Guardian, Skull, Ground Shock, Thermo and Big Bang). Players can change their weapon by earning new items and add-ons. In order to win, the car has to shoot its opponents as many times as it can. Moreover, the player who is the first one to complete a set amount of laps will be considered as the winner.
The game can be controlled both on an iOS and Android device. If players use different mobile platforms, it will not be a problem. One player can use his iOS smartphone while the other player can use his Android. In order for the car to turn in a certain direction, the player can simply tilt his smartphone and tablet and the car will automatically follow. This movement control feature definitely adds more excitement to the game particularly to players who have the habit of moving their "handheld console" and even their body towards a direction, thinking that the game character they are playing will mimic their movement.
Anki Overdrive is set to launch on September 20 and will be available in a starter pack that costs $150. Each pack comes with a pair of robotic cars (GroundShock and Skull), straight track pieces (4), 90-degree curved pieces (6), a pair of riser pieces, one four-car charger, and one tire cleaning kit. Additional track pieces are also sold separately such as Bank Turn Kit, 4-way intersection piece, guard rails and more which are priced from $10 to $30. The toy cars cost $50 each.
