Well, that didn't take long.
Fresh off of being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft last Thursday night, Jahlil Okafor has been given top odds to win the league's 2016 Rookie of the Year award.
The Bovada Sportsbook gave the 6'11", 275-pound center out of Duke 7-2 odds to be named the 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year. That slightly edges the odds of the two players – Minnesota Timberwolves power foward/center Karl-Anthony Towns and Los Angeles Lakers point guard D'Angelo Russell – who were taken before him in last week's draft.
Okafor enters the NBA having helped lead the Blue Devils to a national title in April, and he comes equipped with a dizzying array of low-post moves. The top overall pick, Towns, at 6'11" and 250 pounds, has low-post moves as well — but also has the ability to handle the ball and step beyond the arc to drain three-pointers with surprising ease. He has been given 7-1 odds to win Rookie of the Year.
The 6'5" Russell – who could very well be the brightest star in the draft – is a scoring, playmaking point guard. Russell isn't the most athletic player, but he has an exceptionally great feel and vision for the game. He has 4-1 odds.
From there, it's a "who's who" list of fellow lottery picks who were given odds. For what it's worth, Tech Times is going with Towns to win Rookie of the Year next season. Who do you like?
