Spider-man is making a comeback, in movies and in comics. Recently, Marvel announced that it planned on relaunching its Amazing Spider-Man title, with Amazing Spider-Man #1.
Now we know what the cover of this new Amazing Spider-Man title looks like, thanks to Bleeding Cool, and it shows us an "all-new all-different" version of the character who sports a new costume, but still looks a lot like actor Andrew Garfield, who portrayed the superhero in the last two movies about Spider-Man.
Also, if you take a peek at the right bottom corner of the cover, you'll see something else: Spider-man driving what seems to be a Spider-mobile. Yes, it seems the Spider-mobile is also making a comeback. Now as to why Spider-man needs a vehicle is anyone's guess (isn't it faster soaring through the city on webs?), but it's likely that Marvel is thinking of the longer game, here, particularly with toy merchandising.
"Your friendly neighborhood just got bigger," reads the Amazing Spider-Man #1's tagline.
Of course there's more than one Wall Crawler in town, with Miles Morales stepping into the webbed shoes of the superhero. Morales is half black and half Latino and adds some much-needed diversity into Marvel's line-up, something Marvel seems intent on recently (at least in their comic book titles).
As to the Spider-mobile, it's likely it still won't go over well. The Spider-mobile, which could climb walls (just like Spider-man, making it redundant) has become a joke among Spider-man fans, with website io9 even rating it as one of the most ludicrous superhero vehicles of all time.
Of course, Spider-Man is also making news, thanks to the recent casting of Tom Holland as Peter Parker in a new reboot film. This is the third time the series has become a rebooted franchise since 2002. Hopefully, this time, it sticks.
Expect The Amazing Spider-Man #1 to hit stores and online in October.
