A few weeks ago, Marvel announced that when Secret Wars ends and the "All-New, All-Different Marvel" begins with a remade universe, there would be not one but two Wolverines on the scene.
The Logan that recently died in the core Marvel Universe is staying dead, it would seem, but another is stepping up to take his place: X-23. The new primary Wolverine will be a female, as part of the publisher's continued efforts to expand its roster's diversity. But she's not alone. The wildly popular "Old Man Logan" character, first created by Mark Millar and currently appearing in a self-titled Battleworld miniseries, is coming to the mainstream Marvel Universe, too.
Bleeding Cool reports today that come October, after Secret Wars is done, Marvel is launching one new comic book for each Wolverine. X-23 stars in Wolverine, by writer Tom Taylor and artist David Lopez. The title's tagline is said to be, "The best there is at what she does."
Nothing is known about the storyline of Old Man Logan or what kind of situation he'll find himself in, but we're eager to see how he reacts to inhabiting a modern world where all of the superheroes he was tricked into murdering are still alive. The series is being written by Jeff Lemire, with art by Andrea Sorrentino — who's currently killing it with Brian Michael Bendis in the Battleworld Old Man Logan miniseries. This one's tagline is, "Older. Wiser. Sharper."
We see what you did there, Marvel. Um, good one.
