Kindle App Introduces New Sharing Feature: Here's How It Works

Amazon has a new feature in store for the Kindle for Android app, now allowing users to privately share the quotes they like most.

Sharing quotes or recommendations with people on Facebook and Twitter has long been an option for Kindle readers, but so far they could only share what they wanted with their entire social network. Now, if readers want to share a quote with just one friend or a specific group of people, they can do so instead of sharing it with everyone.

The new feature introduced in the Kindle for Android app now allows users to share quotes, various highlights, as well as recommendations, with only one or a few specific people. To do so, all you have to do is tap the share icon at the top of the app (see image above) and then select how you want to share the quote - you can send it via text, in an email, or using messaging services such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. From there on, just select the person or people you want to share it with.

When the recipient gets the message you sent, they can start checking out a book preview right away, straight from their tablet, smartphone or PC, without necessarily having to be a Kindle user. They won't even have to sign up or install the Kindle app so they can see what you share with them.

"The perfect quote in a book isn't always the perfect quote for your whole social network. Now it's easy to share exactly what you want in a Kindle book with exactly who you want," Russ Grandinetti, Senior Vice President at Kindle, touts in a statement.

With the new feature, Amazon aims to make it easier for Kindle users to discuss the books they love and the quotes they liked best, or to recommend a book with just a friend or a few people.

This neat new feature that allows users to share things with specific people is currently available only on the Kindle Android app, but Amazon plans to extend the treat to Kindle e-readers, as well as other devices, later this year. A more specific timeframe is not available at this point, but more information should come to light shortly.
