Duke's Coach K Admits Using Twitter Alias To Spy On Players

You can teach an old coach new tricks.

Months after winning his fifth national title, longtime Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski sat down with ESPN for an interview in Durham, North Carolina. As a kicker to the Q&A segment, coach K was asked if he's on social media.

His answer was somewhat surprising... not to mention both blunt and deceiving at the same time.

"I follow guys. I don't want to be on Twitter because I don't care. I don't want their opinions. I don't need to show that I have X amount of followers. But I follow a lot of people on Twitter, under an alias," Krzyzewski revealed. "I tell my guys I'm following you. Then if I see something, you text them, you gotta watch. But there are a lot of cool things that they do. I do like that they do it."

Pretty interesting, right? Considering that Krzyzewski has lived several basketball lifetimes at the age of 68 and over 1,000 career victories, it's pretty intriguing that he's on Twitter to follow his players — even if it is under an alias. Something tells us Bill Belichick would approve of this kind of approach. Difference is, Belichick wouldn't tell his players that he's following them.

Nevertheless, we like that Coach K tells his players that he's following them. That could serve as a deterrent from a player posting something too foolish or worse — something that could get him in serious trouble.

Wonder what Krzyzewski's Twitter handle is, though. Something involving Christian Laettner?
