Recently-leaked Sony documents have shown the rivalry between studios behind closed doors is ugly as ever, and nothing about this will ever change.
In the leaked email, a former Sony producer made some claims about the DC movie plans, and they were harsh.
According to former producer Michael De Luca, he sees no reason to fear Warner Bros. and its lineup of DC movies because DC characters are "corny" and because the company "does not have a Kevin Feige type character, so failure is just right around the corner."
"They are using the new Superman to intro the Justice League and then hope to do one-off movies after Justice League, sort of the reverse of Marvel. They don't have a Feige, they sort of have Nolan and Goyer and Zack Snyder. Plus the DC characters are corny and it remains to be seen how this all works out."
The above email was written back in September 2014, long before more information on what Warner Bros. plans to do with DC came to light. We're not sure he feels the same way after seeing the first Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer, and what David Ayer is currently doing with Suicide Squad.
Some might say DC characters are not corny ... well, they can be sometimes. Just look at the CW shows The Flash and Arrow. The DC characters portrayed in these series are corny, some of them even unlikeable because of it. However, it doesn't mean Warner Bros. will bring the corniness to the big screen.
We understand that a realistic universe is planned for DC movies, and corniness usually does not go hand-in-hand with that. Furthermore, we should also bear in mind that the TV series are targeted at the whole family and are designed to be funny, among other things.
We're not saying the movies can't be funny as well, but they seem to be going along the lines of The Dark Knight trilogy more than anything else.
