Motorola set to unwrap Moto E on May 13 in London

Motorola is said to be all geared up to roll out a new smartphone in London and a similar launch in New Delhi, India, both on May 13, as the company sent out invites to the international media. No other details were disclosed, but word went around online that the press event will be for the new budget smartphone called Moto E.

Recall sometime in January this year, CEO Dennis Woodside of Motorola revealed the company's intention to produce budget smartphones.

"In much of the world $179 is a lot of money so there's a big market at a price point of less than $179," he told to TrustedReviews.

"We're going to look at that and just delivering on that value promise is super important. I mean why can't these devices be $50? There's no reason that can't happen so we're going to push that," he adds.

Rumor has it that Moto E would either supplement or replace Moto G, although with lower specifications. The latest is said to be of the entry-level type that features a 4.3-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, 5MP camera, 1900mAH battery, Android 4.4 KitKat, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and FM Radio. It is also said to be lightweight as it is allegedly 6.2mm thin. Also, the smartphone will have three choices of SIM slots: single SIM (XT1021), dual SIM (XT1022) and dual SIM + digital TV (XT1025). It is said to focus on enhancing Internet mobile experience of users.

The Moto G device was a big hit for the company with about 250,000 units sold in the first month in India and that it continues to pump its daily sales, research says. Analysts say that the company was possibly encouraged by the feat of Moto G, so it is playing its luck on producing and marketing budget smartphones. They also say the budget-friendly sector is in fact considerably ignored by the mobile industry players, barely making affordable devices with decent specifications.

Other than the rumored Moto E, another rumor comes in with the other devices said to be in the works such as the Moto X successor to be called Moto X+1 as well as a 6-inch phablet. Previously, Moto X was also successful like the Moto G.

Again, if these rumors going around online were true, the Moto E smartphone will be the first device of Motorola that is under the leadership of new owner Lenovo.
