LG has sent out invitations for a big event that will be kept in London, on May 27 will satellite events in both New York and San Francisco, along with Seoul, Istanbul, and Singapore the next day. LG did not confirm what this big event will entail, but it is rumored that the company might announce a new smartphone.
The smartphone in question is the LG G3, the company's rumored flagship device for 2014. In addition, the company is expected to launch its Android Wear-based G Watch at the event, but this is not a certainty.
The tagline of the event is "To be simple is to be great," which is a quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson. While LG did not reveal what the company will reveal at the event, we strongly believe it's the LG G3 since the company in the past told Engadget that it plans to launch the device in the third second of 2014.
We have no idea of the specifications of the LG G3, apart from rumors that claim the handset might have a Quad HD display, possibly 2560 x 1440 pixels. Furthermore, the G3 should come equipped with a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, and 3GB of RAM.
If those specs are indeed what the G3 plans to offer, then it would definitely turn out to be a more capable smartphone when compared to the Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8).
LG's tagline could mean a lot of things. It could mean that the user interface design of its next device will be simple to use and understand; the same can be said about the hardware design, as well. It is clear that users no longer require a device that toys with their thinking process, which is one of the reasons why the iPhone is so popular.
If this event is aimed at launching a new handset, LG must have taken into consideration that it is coming out after Samsung releases its Galaxy S5 flagship handset. It might be too late for LG to gain any meaningful sales. However, if the device is good enough to garner a glance, then it might find at least a niche success from which it can grow.
LG's smart watch
This might turn out to be the most important device at the event. So far, we don't know much, only that this handset will be always on, and will sport a minimal and sleek design.
We'll be keeping a close eye come May 27 to see if LG has what it takes to do something special.
