The greatest skateboarder of all time is back.
After nearly 13 years since the last release in the series, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 is currently available for pre-order and slated for a September 29 release.
In the video game's trailer, released Wednesday and posted below, Hawk says collaborating with Activision again was second nature.
"I've been working with Activision for so long, I don't have to school them on what skateboarding is or how to represent it well," Hawk says in the clip. "Working together is pretty seamless."
That being said, the pressure was on for Hawk and Activision to live up to expectations with the latest title of the popular franchise, one that has built a solid following amongst skateboarders ever since the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater debuted in 1999. In fact, many younger skaters played the video game, before they actually started skating.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 is laced with new gameplay mechanics that should make the fifth title of the franchise ultra popular amongst its loyal fan base. One of the new wrinkles is the ability for skaters to slam down and grind on any surface. Slamming down will allow gamers to speed up the overall gameplay of their skating.
Hawk also thinks the use of real-life locations will appeal to the hardcore skate fan, but that the Create A Park function will "bring the video game community in in a very big way." Creators will have an arsenal of skate props available to them to design and build skate parks with in that mode. The game can also be played online with multi-players for an essential skating community.
Sounds like Hawk and Activision really grinded—pun intended—for the return of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series and it will be worth the long wait.
