US Cellular Begins Moto X (2014) Android 5.1 Lollipop Update Soak Test

Delivery of Android 5.1 Lollipop to second generation Moto X handsets appears imminent. Motorola just announced that it's soak testing the update on US Cellular's network, so it won't be long now.

Soak testing entails pushing a circuit or system, US Cellular's network in this case, under tightly controlled circumstances. It's a form of load and stress testing which enables software engineers to adjust the scale and support of a platform before delivering a payload, which is Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Motorola Mobility's David Schuster took to Google Plus to announce the soak testing for the Moto X.

"We are starting the full soak test today for Android 5.1 Lollipop for Moto X (2nd Gen) with USC in the US," says Schuster.

Android 5.1 Lollipop was expected to reach the Moto X second gen before the end of last month, but it appears there were some bugs that have been plaguing the update and, thus, delayed the soak testing. At least that was what the case with the Pure Edition of the Moto X.

"Quick update with respect to Moto X Pure Edition (2nd Gen) in the US," said Schuster on June 22. "As many of you know we had started a soak test a couple weeks ago and discovered an issue which we need to address. Over the past weekend we restarted the soak test. I will keep you posted on its progress."

Android 5.1 Lollipop will update the Moto X's notifications and interruptions, Quick Settings, flashlight, device lock, lockscreen and overall performance. It'll also squash a colony of bugs.

Here's a run-down of the issues that will be resolved with the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop:
