Bungie teases Destiny trailer: What to expect

Bungie has moved away from the Halo universe and into something that appears to be more ambitious. The newest title from the famed developer is called Destiny, a first person shooter that is part action game and part MMO.

The new game has all the buzz since Bungie first showed footage back at the E3 2013 video game conference, but things got more interesting after the company released a new trailer and allowed several video game journalists to play the game for a short amount of time.

From what we can tell, players should expect a game that is similar to Halo in many ways. The controls are similar and even some enemies move in a similar fashion when compared to Halo. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it could mean that Destiny is bringing nothing new to first person shooter genre by the looks of it.

Patricia Hernandez from Kotaku has gone as far on record to state that Destiny in her 45 minutes playthrough, is a boring game. That's very harsh, and while some might say that 45 minutes is not enough to judge what a game might turn out to be, we believe it is enough when it comes down to shooters.

"The game runs great, looks great," says Hernandez. "Still, the entire time I was playing, I primarily thought two things: 1) I wish I was playing the ever-exciting Titanfall instead and 2) I don't know where a game like Destiny will fit in a landscape that's full of shooters."

Polygon's own Colin Campbell asked Bungie what's different about Destiny, and apparently he was told he had to wait until E3 to see everything. Now, that's a strange response since Bungie definitely wanted video game journalists to get excited about the game, hence the reason many of them were given the chance to play it. In doing this, why not show them what's new and interesting?

At this point, gamers may need to lower their expectations of Destiny, as it appears to be a visual splendor that brings nothing new to the table in a sea filled with shooters.
