Fans of anime and manga series Death Note not living in Japan won't have to wait very long to see the upcoming live-action series.
Anime streaming site Crunchyroll recently obtained rights to air the new series this summer, not just in North America, but also in Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and Spain.
However, there's even better news for those fans living in the U.S., the Middle East, Africa and Europe: new episodes of the series will stream on Crunchyroll just a few days after they air in Japan.
Death Note is a popular manga and anime series that tells the story of a teenage boy who gets his hands on a supernatural book that allows him to kill people by writing their name in it. The boy begins a vigilante killing spree, targeting the criminals of the world. Of course, this makes him a target and has him questioning the morality of his activities.
The story of Death Note began as a manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata but since has seen three live-action films, as well as a 37-episode anime series. However, the new live-action TV series will feature an entirely new plot from other iterations of the story.
Death Note's popularity spread from Japan and eventually became popular worldwide and was even ranked by IGN Entertainment as No. 51 on its list of top 100 greatest animated TV series of all time in 2009.
The main cast for the live-action series that will stream on Crunchyroll includes Kento Yamazaki as L, Masataka Kubota as Light Yagami and Mio Yuuki as Near. Hinako Sano, a Japanese idol, will play Misa Amane.
Meanwhile, the Americans plan on working on their own film version of a live-action series, although the project has already gone through several directors attached to it.
