Filming began this week on Sony's all-female reboot of Ghostbusters in Boston. Paul Feig is directing, with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones starring.
Boston.com captured the first images of the cast and crew at work in the streets of Boston and posted them online. The photos show Kristen Wiig working under the direction of a dapper looking Feig.
It appears that Boston is being transformed into New York City for the film, as evidenced by a NYC cab on set and banners for a Bronx high school that have been hung from the local Everett High School. The banners are for a "Higgins Science Institute," which we imagine is where the new 'Busters work at the movie's outset, or perhaps study.
Neighborhood residents have been given a friendly little flyer that lists stars that can be spotted in the area. It labels the production as for a movie called Flapjack, but it's obvious what it really is.
It's worth noting that at the top of that list is original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd. Aykroyd is one of the reboot's producers, but his presence on set — a place you don't always find producers — leaves us wondering if he might step in front of the camera as well. Sony and Feig have been adamant that the new Ghostbusters is a fresh start, unconnected to the original films in any way. But that doesn't mean Aykroyd couldn't appear in a new role created for this movie.
