It's considered arguably the greatest catch of all time — so utterly jaw-dropping that even seeing it in a video game will leave you awestruck.
Rolling out its trailer for Madden NFL 16 at EA Sports' press conference in Los Angeles this week, the beloved football series shines the whole spotlight on Odell Beckham, Jr. — the New York Giants star wide receiver and cover subject of the video game.
As a rookie sensation playing against the Dallas Cowboys in November last season, Beckham sent instant replays and highlight reels alike into a frenzy by delivering a miraculous, leaping-backwards, stretched-out, one-handed grab that many consider the greatest catch in NFL history.
Trying to replicate it – even for a video game – is not an easy task. EA Sports tried anyway — and absolutely succeeded! With a stoic-voiced narrator declaring, "every now and then, someone comes along and changes everything," the Madden NFL 16 trailer is off and running, setting the scene for the Giants trailing the Green Bay Packers with under two minutes remaining in the game.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning throws a couple of incomplete passes and gets sacked, leaving Big Blue with one final chance to score. That's when Manning finds Beckham, who hauls in the reception on the miraculous one-handed catch.
Can you say touchdown? The trailer absolutely accomplishes its mission statement of "be the playmaker in Madden NFL 16!"
If watching this doesn't get you hyped up to play this game, nothing will. Check it out.
