Bloodborne may have been a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but that didn't stop the next game in From Software's Dark Souls series from making its world premiere at Microsoft's E3 press conference.
That's right: Dark Souls 3 is officially coming. A new eerie trailer for the game established the mood Dark Souls players are all familiar with at this point. Creepy monsters, massive beasts and a haunting score is all par for the course when it comes to From Software's notoriously difficult series.
Sadly, we didn't get to see the game in action. A brief teaser trailer is all we have to go on. VG24/7 previously reported the game would be announced at the show, though few expected it to debut at Microsoft's press conference. The site reported that original Dark Souls and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki will be in charge of the development team for Dark Souls 3. Miyazaki supervised the creation of Dark Souls 2, which was recently re-released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 under the name Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin edition.
Leaked promotional materials and even what one YouTuber claimed to be gameplay have appeared online for Dark Souls 3. The promotional materials have been proven true. Dark Souls 3 is coming in early 2016.
However, because no gameplay was shown at Microsoft's press conference, we still don't know if those leaked screen shots were what they claimed to be. We will have to wait to and see if any of those details turn out to be true. Check out the announcement trailer below.
