The company isn't doing too much to hype it just yet but, as Venture Beat reports, Spotify has quietly launched a new service designed to expand the back catalogs of its users a bit.
Dubbed Taste Rewind, the service asks users to pick three favorite artists and then automatically builds playlists from past decades based on those choices. Unfortunately, the choices for those three initial picks seem to be a bit limited, and it's a bit hit and miss when it comes to actually pulling artists from your own Spotify account (which may be why its still in a soft launch mode).
The service does show some promise, though. It seems to be reasonably good at matching other artists based on your picks, and the playlists themselves (most of which seem to include 15 songs) are varied enough that most folks should find some new music they haven't heard before.
It's also, of course, one more feature that differentiates Spotify from its competitors, which we can no doubt expect to see more of as it tries to keep folks from jumping to Apple's new service. You can try it out for yourself here.
