If you've ever seen the movie Jaws, it either inspired you to become a marine biologist or it probably scared you maybe just a little bit from swimming at the beach for a while. Whatever your reactions, one thing is for sure - your fascination with great white sharks was ignited.
A latest video post on Facebook shows a man seemingly giving a great white shark a high five in the waters of Mexico. The video has captivated the interests and hearts of viewers raising awareness to respect these great creatures and the habitat they live in.
Mexico's Guadalupe Island local researcher, Mauricio Hoyos Padilla uploaded the video of his close encounter with a gigantic great white shark aptly named Deep Blue. The great white shark was featured last year in a Discovery network documentary where Mauricio managed to tag her.
Deep Blue is believed to be at least 50 years old. She measures more than six meters or 20 feet in length and is said to be one of the largest great white sharks to be tagged and videotaped. Though the waters of Guadalupe Island are home to dozens of great white sharks, Padilla claims that Deep Blue is the largest of the great whites ever spotted in the area.
In the video, Mauricio leaves the safety of the shark cage to come close enough to touch Deep Blue. The shark does not seem to mind the researcher's presence and continues to swim around the cage to show off her massive and powerful body before swimming away.
The Guadalupe Island is located 165 miles west of Baja, California and is a famous great white shark destination for divers across the globe.
