If you're a fan of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, you should be familiar with his "Lie Witness News" segment, in which the late-night talk show host sends a reporter out to the public to disseminate fake news stories.
Often, people react to the stories as if they were genuine — which only adds to the hilarity of the segment. But this "Lie Witness News" account and reaction – especially the reaction – takes the cake.
At the 1:32 mark of this video, Kimmel's reporter informs a Golden State Warriors fan that LeBron James will be legally changing his name to Michael Jordan. And the man actually believes it!
"LeBron stunned the world today, when he announced that he'd be changing his name to Michael Jordan," the reporter told the fan. "What was your reaction to that news?"
The Warriors fan's shocking response? "I was surprised. I thought he would have wanted to stay LeBron."
In disbelief that the fan actually fell for the slice of fake news, Kimmel's reporter kept prodding.
"Do you think it's a good idea to change his name to Michael Jordan?"
Warriors fan: "For marketing... yeah."
And the unbelievable kicker —
Kimmel's reporter: "Where were you when you heard this?"
Warriors fan: "I was sitting at home, watching TV, and I was shocked to see that!"
It's beyond mind-boggling that this Warriors fan went along with the prank. Not to mention absolutely hilarious. Enjoy the entire clip here. This video is a part of Kimmel's annual hijinx built around the NBA Finals.
