PlayStation Vue Mobile Now Available For Apple iPad In Limited Locations

Sony has announced via social media that PlayStation Vue Mobile is now available for iPad in some limited locations.

PlayStation Vue is Sony's cloud-based TV service that streams live TV channels as well as video on-demand. The service was launched in March 2015 only in New York, Philadelphia and Chicago, for a minimum monthly fee of $49.99.

In March 2015, Andrew House, the global CEO and president of Sony Computer Entertainment, suggested that the TV watching experience needs a revolution, which PlayStation Vue will provide.

"PlayStation Vue modernizes the TV viewing experience, taking the best of live TV and on-demand content and bringing it to the PlayStation ecosystem in a way that gives control back to viewers and enables them to spend more time watching their favorite programs and less time channel surfing using outdated menus," said House.

At its debut, the PlayStation Vue could only be used with PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation 4 (PS4); however, now the service is also available for iPads, but only in New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.

The PlayStation Network has also been updated to confirm the arrival of the TV service to iPads.

"Enjoy live TV, My Shows, and on-demand programming in any room of your home with PlayStation Vue Mobile on iPad," says the PlayStation Network.

An iPad user who wants PlayStation Vue on their tablet will need a PlayStation Vue subscription via PS3 or PS4 and an Internet connection. The app is available as a free download from iTunes, and it takes up 13 MB. iTunes suggests that PlayStation Vue is compatible with iPads running iOS 7 or later.

PlayStation Vue has three monthly subscription plans: Access, Core and Elite, which cost $49.99, $59.99 and $69.99 per month.

Sony has more than 35 million combined users of PS3 and PS4 in the U.S., and the company hopes to tap these customers first. However, other similar services, such as Sling TV, are available in more markets at a cheaper rate, which may deter users from subscribing to PlayStation Vue.

The company also revealed that PlayStation Vue will be available in additional markets later in the year. The service will also be made available to other Sony and non-Sony devices.
