Samsung trademarked the Galaxy Tab E earlier this year and now a tablet under this brand appears in a Taiwanese retail catalog.
This means that the Samsung Galaxy Tab E tablet launch is just around the corner and the company should make an official unveiling soon enough.
As spotted by Blog of Mobile, the June 2015 equipment catalog from carrier Taiwan Mobile lists the unannounced Samsung Galaxy Tab E with model number SM-T560. The listing also reveals some specifications for the upcoming slate, which seems to be targeting the mid-range segment of the tablet market.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab E features a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, which means that it will not sport the iPad-like 4:3 aspect ratio expected for the Galaxy Tab S2. Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab E will pack a 1.3GHz processor, but the listing doesn't specify the processor type. The tablet will also have a 5-megapixel rear camera. This SM-T560 model is the Wi-Fi version of the slate, but a Wi-Fi + Cellular variant should be in the cards as well.
On the software side, the Samsung Galaxy Tab E should run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, but the catalog listing makes no mention of it for now. In terms of user interface, the image of the tablet doesn't seem to show the new TouchWiz UX that launched with the Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone.
No other specs are available at this point for the Galaxy Tab E SM-T560, but more information should come to light shortly.
Based on the specifications given so far, the Samsung Galaxy Tab E sounds like a new addition to the company's lineup of affordable tablets. The tablet is listed with a $690 price tag for this Wi-Fi-only model, however, so it may not be the cheapest Android tablet of its kind.
It remains unclear at this point just when the Galaxy Tab E will make its official debut or whether it will reach other markets outside of Asia, but Samsung should make an official announcement soon enough. This tablet is expected to be the first device in a new Galaxy Tab E line, with more to follow.
We'll keep you up to date as soon as the Samsung Galaxy Tab E makes its formal debut, but take all leaks and reports with a grain of salt in the meantime.
