The latest film in the Ridley Scott arsenal, The Martian, finally has a new trailer, released today.
The trailer sets up the film's premise: a group of astronauts on a mission to Mars get caught in a storm that requires them to leave the red planet and abort their mission. Unfortunately, one astronaut, Mark Watney (Matt Damon) doesn't make it back to the ship and gets reported as dead.
There's just one problem, though: Watney survived the storm and is now stranded on the surface of Mars without any way of going home. We see him send a message back to his ship, and when they receive it, his crew members vow to bring him home, against NASA's wishes.
Based on a novel by Andy Weir, The Martian is about one man doing all he can to survive on a hostile planet, learning to subsist on the surface of an alien planet and praying that someone will come for him and take him home.
If this trailer is any indication, the film will have a lot of thrills and action, but also some beautiful CGI scenery of Mars. However, it also gives a lot of the plot away, so we're hoping the film itself still retains some surprises for audiences who see it.
In addition to Damon, The Martian hosts a stellar cast including Jessica Chastian, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean and Michael Pena.
The Martian arrives in theaters in 3D on November 25.
