Sense8, Netflix's new supernatural thriller from J. Michael Straczynski and Andy and Lana Wachowski premieres this weekend. As a sneak peek, Netflix recently released eight trailers highlighting each of the eight main character in the series.
Sense8 focuses on these eight characters, strangers from all over the world who suddenly find themselves mentally connected to each other. This makes them a target of a mysterious character called Mr. Whispers. It is up to these eight people to find out why this has happened to them and why they're in danger. Ultimately, they must also decide how their experience affects the future of mankind.
Early reviews of the series are mostly positive.
"The set-up sounds like Heroes or any other number of shows from the 2000s, but the Wachowskis - who direct the entire season - differentiate their show by taking different genre approaches with each character's story," writes the Verge. "Wolfgang's tale takes on the vibe of a gritty crime thriller, while the story of a closeted Mexican movie star and the actress who's obsessed with him plays like a tongue-in-cheek comedy of errors."
The series, which releases this weekend in its entirety, consists of 12 episodes and has a star-studded sci-fi cast that includes Brian J. Smith (SGU), Tuppence Middleton (The Imitation Game, Jupiter Ascending), Jamie Clayton (Hung), Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas), Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner) and Max Riemelt.
Other supporting actors include Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill, Blade Runner), Naveen Andrews (Lost), Terrence Mann (The Dresden Files), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Adam Shapiro (Now You See Me), Ness Bautista (The Last Ship) and Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos, Memento).
