Final Fantasy Tactics is an old yet iconic game, and it's finally available for Android devices.
The game first made its debut on the original Sony PlayStation console back in 1997, stirring tremendous interest from the start. Final Fantasy Tactics on PlayStation sold a whopping 2.4 million copies across the world, and became even more successful in 2007 when the remake Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions hit the PlayStation Portable.
Indeed, Final Fantasy Tactics is widely considered the game that started the whole RPG genre frenzy, getting countless gamers addicted to the strategic gameplay and complex storyline.
Many games typically hit the Android platform a good while after they become available on iOS, but in this case, it's been a notably long time. Final Fantasy Tactics made its way to iOS back in 2011, so it took no less than four years for the game to reach Android devices as well.
Nevertheless, it's better late than never, and the popular Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions is now officially available on Google Play.
The mobile version is a port of the aforementioned PSP remake that launched in 2007 as the War of Lions, bringing some extra features such as new jobs, movies and scenarios into the mix. When it hit the iPhone in 2011, users complained of long load times, but the game was still a great success and many gamers enjoyed the chance to play the iconic title on their smartphone.
The newly released Android version is good news for many fans, but the optimization could have been better. The experience would be significantly enhanced with Android TV and gamepad support, but this is not the case. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions does work with the touch screen controls of a mobile device, but the Android port had greater potential.
When it comes to pricing, Square Enix mobile ports usually don't come cheap. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions for Android is no exception, sporting a hefty $14 price tag on Google Play.
