Sony SmartBand 2 Will Sport A Heart Rate Monitor

Sony has not officially announced the SmartBand 2 but the company has accidentally revealed that wearable on the Google Play store.

The SmartBand is a 24/7 wearable device that can be worn on the wrist for tracking fitness of the wearer. The wearable is available in a number of vibrant colors to suit individual taste. The SmartBand can be paired with a smartphone to get notifications.

"SmartBand makes sure you never miss a thing by vibrating gently when calls, message notifications or other alerts are activated in your smartphone," per Sony. "It also vibrates when you're not within 10 metres of your smartphone."

The Sony SmartBand does not come with a heart rate monitor. However, the next-generation SmartBand 2 will get the feature making it a better fitness tracker.

On June 4, Sony updated the SmartBand 2 app on the Play store. The app description states it is the official application for the SmartBand 2 SWR12. However, company has not yet announced the upcoming wearable.

"An innovative life logging wrist band that tracks your body effort through pulse and HRV [heart rate variability], keeps track of your movements and your sleep," per the description of the app on Play store.

Just like the previous SmartBand, the SmartBand 2 will also give notifications like incoming calls, text messages and more to its wearers.

Sony also recommends SmartBand 2 users to install its Lifelog app for viewing their information about physical activity, entertainment and communications.

The SmartBand 2 can work with any Android smartphone running on Android 4.4 KitKat or above. However, the SmartBand 2 app is optimized for Sony Xperia handsets that are running on Android 4.4 KitKat or above.

Sony launched the original SmartBand in May 2014. The SmartBand had a price tag of $100 in the U.S. at its launch. The wearable device market is full with fitness tracking devices made by various companies. Sony will have to attach an attractive price tag to the SmartBand 2 to entice customers.
