Lenovo unveils Smartband SW-B100. This wearable looks familiar

Lenovo is the newest company to have joined the health-conscious companies with their own health-related devices. The PC company, which hails from China, has dubbed its fitness band the Lenovo Smartband SW-B100.

While the product was not formally launched with the same hype as devices from other companies, Lenovo has already placed the Smartband SW-B100 on their website. The site shows that the wearable comes in two colors: blue and orange.

The Smartband is compatible with Windows Phone devices. Moreover, it has the ability to unlock Windows PCs without the need to manually enter a password.

"The Lenovo Smartband is for young people who take care of their personal health and are interested in new tech trend products," says Lenovo on the site. "It allows you to track daily exercise, sleep and heart rate, customize notifications to improve both work and life efficiency and automatically log in on a PC without entering a password."

The Smartband has features reminiscent of other smartbands seen in the past. These include the Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit and Sony Smartband SWR10. Unlike the latter, the Lenovo Smartband SW-B100 features a small display.

There are also those who compare the Smartband with the Fitbit Flex.

Some notable features of the new Smartband from Lenovo includes Exercise Tracking, Sleeping Tracking, Smart Device Interaction, Alert Reminder and SNS sharing.

By using a companion app, consumers can rely on the Lenovo Smartband SW-B100 in tracking fitness. It knows how to measure steps, heart rate, calories burnt and distance covered. It also knows how to show these measurements on a data graph on the app daily, weekly and monthly, depending on the users' choice. It can be linked to a mobile phone and show notifications such as text messages, missed calls and calendar appointments. The tiny display shows time as a default setting. However, it may be difficult to read text messages through it.

Though the new Smartband from Lenovo will not feature Android Wear support, it nevertheless works with Android devices of versions 4.3 and higher. It is also compatible with iPhones and iPads that are running on iOS 7.1 and up.

There's no word yet on the wearable's price and availability. It is highly unlikely that the Smartband will land on U.S. shores.

As the wearable market becomes more diverse and a little crowded, it has given consumers a few good reasons to distinguish one brand from the rest. Still, companies feel compelled to enter the market. In order to stand out, Lenovo may just target the price-conscious consumers with its new wearable.
