Game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals is all set to tip off on June 4, with the Western Conference champions Golden State Warriors led by 2015 NBA MVP Stephen Curry taking on the Eastern Conference champions Cleveland Cavaliers led by Lebron James, who will be on his fifth straight year of being in the NBA's championship series.
The 2015 NBA Playoffs has been a very exciting one to watch, with a great mix of blowouts, come-from-behind victories and buzzer beaters among the 16 teams that initially participated.
However, the number of teams is now down to two, with the teams headlining the NBA Finals correctly predicted by basketball simulation video game NBA 2K15.
In April at around the start of the NBA Playoffs, a simulation that was run by NBA 2K15 predicted that the Warriors will be facing the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.
In the simulation by NBA 2K15, certain elements in the Western Conference were inaccurately judged. First off was that the Portland Trailblazers would win over the Memphis Grizzlies, though it will never be known if the Trailblazers would have won over the Grizzlies if not for the unlucky rash of injuries that the team experienced near the end of the regular season that extended into the NBA Playoffs.
The second wrong prediction was that the San Antonio Spurs would win over the Los Angeles Clippers, though the simulation got it right that it would take the whole seven games to determine who would be the winner in the matchup of two very talented teams. Because of that wrong prediction, Spurs was the one predicted by the simulation to battle the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, when it was the Rockets that did so in real life.
The outcome in the Western Conference, however, is still the same, with the Warriors coming out on top to represent the conference in the NBA Finals.
The predictions for the Eastern Conference, however, are spot on. While the games played in each series contained discrepancies, the predicted winner for each matchup was correct, with the Cavaliers taking down the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The NBA 2K15 simulation predicts that the Warriors will win its first title since 1975 over the Cavaliers, taking six games to do so.
Digital Trends carried out another NBA 2K15 simulation of the NBA Finals, but with a different outcome. In the simulation it will be the Cavaliers winning over the Warriors in only five games.
The accuracy of these predictions, however, will of course remain to be seen as the whole world awaits for the explosive matchup between the two teams to unfold starting with Game 1 on June 4.
