Remember that upcoming DC Comics-related TV show that is called Preacher?
Probably not. Well, the team is restoring a church in Mexico to be used on the set.
The church is located in the rural community of Lamy and was built in 1926. That's quite a long time ago, but unfortunately, the building was not kept in good condition, and now it is up to the producers of Preacher to get it up and running again.
The main reason the church is no longer in use is due to lack of attendance. It was shut down in 1994 but will be repaired and open for business again. We understand it is possible for folks to hold weddings at the church, among other things.
Producers have paid to repair the church's base structure, replace its colorful stained-glass windows and do some electrical work. The producers won't, however, work on the church's exterior, as they plan to use a different building for those shots.
For those who might not have an idea of what Preacher is, let us break it down. The show is about a Texas preacher who found out God is no longer in heaven and has chosen to go out and find him. Apparently, he is the only person who can, and he has brought along his former girlfriend and a vampire who wants nothing to with the blood of the innocent.
On his tail is a man who goes by the name Saint of Killers. He's immortal and will stop at nothing to have the preacher, Reverend Jesse Custer, killed.
The show is based on the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name. If the show turns out to be anything like the comics, then viewers are in for some exciting times.
With The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul off the table for now, AMC is looking for a new hit TV series, and it could find it in Preacher, should everything go according to plan.
