'Warcraft' Movie News: Get Your First Look At Orc Leader Ogrim

The wait for official images or a trailer from the upcoming film adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft franchise has been a long one.

The film was recently moved from its December 2015 release date to summer of 2016, and now it looks like news about the film will finally be allowed to surface.

First up are the first official images from the Duncan Jones' film, depicting Robert Kazinsky as the orc Ogrim.

If you've ever played World of Warcraft or watched one of the Warcraft franchise's stunning cinematics, you'll know that this image of Ogrim fits perfectly with that of Blizzard's fantasy world.

Jones truly looks to be respecting the source material in these first pics, so fans, you're finally allowed to get excited.

Here is what Jones' had to say (via Wired) of Kazinsky's motion capture performance as the orc leader:

"We were looking for someone who would be able to perform the gruffness, the humor, and the toughness of this character," Jones tells Wired. "We've gone beyond the point where these are just creatures in movies. We now have the technology and the ability to make new characters entirely."

Warcraft will definitely be a CGI-heavy movie, as many of the characters will be brought to life via motion-capture, but there really is no other way to bring the "high fantasy" look of Blizzard's universe to life with traditional means. Films like Mad Max: Fury Road and the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens are fighting against overuse of CGI by adopting more practical effects, but Jones doesn't believe CGI is the problem.

Earlier this year Jones took to Twitter to state that CGI is just another film making tool, one that can be done well and one that can be done poorly. We will have to wait for Warcraft's release on June 10, 2016 to see which camp Jones' latest project falls into.
