In Marvel Comics, Captain America frequently faces off against a character with a similar skill set. He's named Crossbones, and he's recognized by the distinctive, skull-like face mask he wears, as well as the white "X" on his chest. (It's a skull and crossbones. You got that, right?)
Crossbones actually made his big screen debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You met him as Brock Rumlow, the S.H.I.E.L.D./Hydra agent played by actor Frank Grillo. The end of that movie saw Rumlow hospitalized after being injured when the Triskelion was destroyed.
Now disfigured from those injuries, Rumlow takes on the costumed identity of Crossbones, a bloodthirsty mercenary who usually works for the highest bidder — though he carries a hardcore grudge against Steve Rogers and jumps at any chance to take him on.
Grillo today posted a spy pic of himself on set to Instagram, and it's the first photo we've seen that reveals his Crossbones costume. What do you think?
If you'd like to see more, JustJared has posted a ton of additional spy pics of Grillo, along with stars Chris Evans (Captain America) and Anthony Mackie (Falcon) that reveal their updated costumes from Captain America: Civil War, which is currently filming in Atlanta.
The movie is scheduled for a May 6, 2016 release.
