Another classic case of J.R. Smith being J.R. Smith. You just never know what the wild veteran shooting guard is going to say or do next.
After the Cleveland Cavaliers finished off the Chicago Bulls in their Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series Thursday night, Smith jumped on his Instagram account to throw some darts at his former team, the New York Knicks. Killer timing, J.R.
Smith posted the following meme, showing himself and teammate Iman Shumpert appearing deflated on the Knicks' bench — to the two of them looking elated in Cleveland jerseys. The meme includes the adage, "One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure," and his own written caption of "couldn't have said it better myself!!!
The meme is in direct reference to the Knicks' trade of Smith and Shumpert as part of a three-team deal back in January — and how the duo are now excelling, playing alongside LeBron James for the Cavaliers.
You know Knicks fans are thinking, why couldn't Smith have played this way in New York? The city's nightlife has something to do with it — isn't that right, J.R.? Upon joining the Cavaliers, Smith even said the lack of Cleveland's nightlife would limit distractions and keep his focus on basketball. Collective sigh.
Good luck to Smith, Shumpert and the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals. Meanwhile, the Knicks are trying to rebuild from a disgusting 17-65 record, aka the worst finish in the history of their franchise. Chalk this up to rubbing it in with a meme.
