Unless you've been living under a rock for the past several weeks, you know that Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, is set for release next week. While the expansion has some fans concerned that the new content won't be up to snuff, most are excited just to have another reason to dive back into Destiny.
New weapons, armor and modes await Guardians that shell out for House of Wolves, and it's easy to see why so many fans are excited about the expansion's imminent release.
That being said, it seems as if there may have been a bit of a hiccup: while nothing official has been announced regarding the House of Wolves update, the 1.2.0 Update that was supposed to precede it has been delayed.
Bungie hasn't offered up any real explanations just yet - the only thing that fans know is that the update isn't going to arrive on time.
So, what does this mean for Destiny - and, more importantly, what does this all mean for the House of Wolves launch next week?
From what Bungie has said, it seems as if something's gone wrong with the 1.2.0 Update's distribution. From Bungie's support forums:
"I've spoken with the finest minds at Bungie about Update 1.2.0 just moments ago. They're working to correct a late-breaking technical issue that would have impacted the way the game launches for a large portion of you. Progress is being made."
While the post does technically explain what's gone wrong, it's still incredibly vague. Something went wrong with how the 1.2.0 Update would have made its way to players, but...why? What would have gone wrong?
It doesn't look like Bungie is ready to explain everything quite yet, but the studio did confirm that it would release more details as soon as they were available. None of this sounds good, though.
"We'll be sharing new details on the deployment schedule that leads to House of Wolves as soon as they become facts. At the very least, you'll hear from me once a day about this. Hang in there, and thank you for your patience."
With any luck, the release schedule for updates won't be drastically affected - if it was, that means House of Wolves could be delayed. There's no telling how serious of a problem it is, and there's a chance that the 1.2.0 Update will only be delayed by a few hours.
Then again, if Bungie's taking the time to write a vague status update instead of simply saying "It'll be a few more hours," it could be a bigger problem than anyone expected.
If Destiny's second expansion is released on time, House of Wolves will be available to download on May 19.
