SEGA may have 50 titles currently on the Apple App Store, but it is gearing up to pull the plug on the games in its active game apps catalog.
On Friday, May 8, SEGA made known its plans via a blog post. For those wondering why SEGA is choosing to take this route, the company believes that some of its older games do not meet the required standards. The solution? Pull the plug and shut them down.
The Apple App Store is not the only one that will see the removal of some games from its catalog, but also the Google Play Store, Amazon App Store, and Samsung App Store.
"It is with our fans' best playing experience in mind that we announce the removal of a number of games from our back catalogue. It is important for us to ensure that all of our fans, regardless of platform or operating system, have a great playing experience and after evaluating our complete list of titles, we have determined that a number of them no longer meet our standards," revealed SEGA in a blog post.
However, SEGA also said that these titles could "return in an updated form."
This would imply that the games are not being pulled completely and are simply being de-listed, which means that the titles will still be accessible to people. Interestingly, SEGA is still letting people enjoy their purchased apps even as the games will be shut down in a few weeks from now.
Those who have purchased the games in the past need not fret as the paid/downloaded titles will still be available for playing even after these have been taken down by SEGA unless their compatibility with your Android and iOS platform becomes an issue.
Even if you accidentally delete the game or shift to a new device, you can find the titles in your purchased apps and download them again.
In case you're wondering which games will be pulled down, SEGA has not given the list. What we do know is that the removal is set to happen over the course of the next couple of weeks.
