Godzilla is one of Japan's biggest stars in many ways. He may even be the most iconic movie monster of all time — starring in more than 20 films over a long cinematic career. When westerners think Japan, Godzilla is bound to be brought up.
It makes perfect sense, then, that Godzilla has been named an official Tokyo tourism ambassador — and what better way to attract tourists than to offer special Godzilla-themed hotel rooms?
Okay, so maybe there are other ways to get tourists to visit Tokyo, but these two special Godzilla hotel rooms – now open for business – are definitely something special.
One hotel gives guests the "experience of Godzilla's world," and features a collection of posters from Godzilla's impressive film history, a giant Godzilla statue, as well as Godzilla's hand reaching over the room's two beds. It also includes "hidden messages" that only show up under a black light. This room costs 39,800 yen or $333 a night during weekdays and 49,800 yen or $417 on weekends.
The less expensive Godzilla experience is called the "Godzilla View Room." It sounds like a fairly standard hotel room — only when you look out the window, you have a great view of the massive Godzilla head on the hotel's eighth floor terrace.
The Godzilla View room costs 15,000 yen or $126 a night — so not only is it more frugal, it also lets you relive your favorite movie scenes, like this one, in which a guy shares a moment with the Big G before being blown to smithereens.
Thankfully, the full-scale Godzilla head doesn't have the ability to breathe radioactive fire. Yet.
Godzilla will return to Japanese theaters next summer in what will be the first Japanese Godzilla film in over a decade.
