New Comic Book Day May 6, 2015: It's 'Secret Wars' Time

Marvel's mega-epic Secret Wars debuts this week, and it's by far the biggest title on this week's list. All it will need to make us happy is if it's more exciting and interesting than Convergence has turned out to be.

Secret Wars #1

Marvel Says: "THE FINAL INCURSION IS HAPPENING! THE MARVEL UNIVERSE IS COLLIDING WITH THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE! AND NEITHER WILL SURVIVE!"
Why It's Important: This is it, true believers. You can't call yourself a Marvel Comics reader if you don't pick this book up. Plus there are like 100 (or so) variant covers to collect. If you like that sort of thing.

Convergence #5

DC Says: "The threat to the Multiverse grows as Brainiac confronts his creation Telos, and the surviving heroes of Earth-2 are stuck in the middle! Plus: A specific moment in time signals a call to all the cities that have been battling each other! Witness the final fates of the winners and losers of Convergence!"
Why It's Important: You've made it this far, might as well stick it out to the end.

Convergence: Harley Quinn #2

DC Says: "STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy fight Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew - to the death!"
Why It's Important: It may be the most ridiculous fight you'll see coming from Convergence.

Convergence: The Question #2

DC Says: "STARRING HEROES FROM THE PRE-FLASHPOINT DCU! Renee Montoya's final stand as The Question comes to a head as she helps Two-Face battle Flashpoint's Harvey Dent, but will her world live on?"
Why It's Important: #1 was one of the few Convergence titles that really grabbed our attention and held it.

Baltimore: Cult of the Red King #1

Dark Horse Says: "The Red King is legendary. But is he the stuff of myth-or the ultimate adversary of the human race? In this series, Lord Baltimore discovers the truth about an ancient evil that threatens to destroy the world."
Why It's Important: Mike Mignola writes a new title from the Hellboyverse. What more do you need to know?

Swords of Sorrow #1 (Dynamite)

Dynamite Says: "DYNAMITE'S FIERCEST FEMALES IN THEIR BIGGEST EVENT EVER! Fan-favorite GAIL SIMONE (RED SONJA, BATGIRL) and rising art star SERGIO DAVILA (LEGENDERRY) combine to tell the ultimate pulp adventure, featuring Vampirella, Dejah Thoris, Red Sonja, Kato, Jungle Girl, and many, many more! Villains and heroes from a dozen worlds and eras face off against a legendary evil that threatens all their homelands. Don't miss this thrilling epic tale, an event supported by one-shot side adventures written by the hottest writers today, like G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett, Nancy Collins and more!"
Why It's Important: Barely-dressed women warriors in a story of female empowerment sounds like an oxymoron. We're hoping to be wrong about that.

Kanan the Last Padawan #2

Marvel Says: "His master betrayed and killed, young Caleb Dume is alone. When being a Jedi makes him a target, what can a Padawan do? Continuing the story of the birth of Star Wars Rebels' Kanan Jarrus!"
Why It's Important: We thought #1 was one of the best Star Wars comics to come along in years, and this should be no different.

Arcadia #1

Boom Says: "When 99% of humankind is wiped out by a pandemic, four billion people are 'saved' by being digitized at the brink of death and uploaded into Arcadia, a utopian simulation in the cloud originally intended to accommodate just one person: a wealthy socialite succumbing to Alzheimer's disease. Only the real and simulated worlds working together can stop her when she begins to cleanse the cloud of the four billion 'intruders,' but Arcadia is rapidly depleting the energy resources upon which the handful of survivors in the real world (aka 'The Meat') depends. The real world can help, but will it?"
Why It's Important: We haven't read it yet, but we really like the looks of this one.
