EA: 'Mirror's Edge' Out Early 2016 But 'Titanfall 2' Fans Might Have To Wait Longer

Years of mulling a compelling follow-up to 2008's Mirror's Edge will finally culminate in the launch of a prequel during the first quarter of 2016. EA will also release a sequel to Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare in that window, but the video game publisher won't be calling in its titan.

EA presented its road map of game releases as it reported its fourth quarter finances for its 2015 fiscal year. The road map revealed that the publisher's third and fourth quarters, October through March, will be filled with fresh games, despite none of them being new intellectual properties.

In the money quarter, October though December, EA will launch its revived NBA Live series and release a yet-to-be-announced Need for Speed Game. That quarter will also see the launch of the long-awaited Star Wars: Battlefront.

EA also confirmed it will launch the follow-up to 2014's Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. EA didn't specify in its earnings report that the PVZ game would be another third-person shooter, but Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, confirmed in a call with investors the upcoming game will indeed be a follow-up to Garden Warfare.

"After Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare became a sensation last year with console players young and old, we'll be returning to the Plants vs. Zombies universe with a bigger and bolder new console experience in FY16," Wilson said.

Mirror's Edge 2 will also launch in that January though March quarter, which means that it is very likely gamers will see Faith in action, as in gameplay, during E3 this summer. There could also be some surprises from EA at the gaming conference.

"The way that the team has reduced all the little obstacles of playing the first game, while adding a bunch of innovative stuff makes it an extremely thrilling experience," said Sara Jansson, senior producer of Mirror's Edge, in a statement last summer. The uniqueness of the Mirror's Edge universe is still there, but with a new and fresh feel to it.

Missing from the road map is a sequel to 2014's Titanfall, but the disclaimer under the road map stated that it only depicted announced titles, adding that all launch dates are subject to change.
